As we bring in the new year, there are many new faces at Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central Florida, especially on our 2021 Key Initiative Committee (KI). KI is a group of young professionals who are dedicated to making our community a better place by fundraising and “friendraising” for us. This committee was formed in 2008 to open new doors for the charity by engaging young professionals to host fundraising events to support the families we serve and build awareness of our organization. Let’s meet our new committee members!
“Why did you choose to get involved with RMHCCF?”
A fellow member of the Key Initiative got me involved in RMHCCF events four years ago and I have had the pleasure of building some amazing friendships along the way. I new I wanted to get more involved early on. 2 years ago a close family friend was offered a chance to stay at the RMH here in Orlando as their child went through a life saving surgery. The support this organization gave them was overwhelming and I had to find away to be a part of that for another family. I’m also a cancer survivor and I know the stress and burdon treatments and surgeries can bring. My goal and passion is to offer support in any way I can to offer relief to these families.

I have lived in Orlando for a little over 8 years now and have been blown away by the amount of people that RMHCCF has positively impacted. My family was personally assisted by RMHCCF and by getting involved I hope to pass along that care to other families.

I chose to get involved with RMHCCF after the birth of our first child in May at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. My amazing wife, Kelsey, and I got to experience firsthand the stress, fear, and anxiety throughout labor that eventually ended a day later with the delivery of our happy and healthy daughter, Sophie. Walking past “NICU” signage on the way out of the hospital also brought into perspective that not every parent is as lucky as we were and that feeling of empathy led to looking into organizations and programs that help in those tough situations. I was drawn to the testimonials from families who have been helped by RMHCCF and I reached out to take a tour. Upon entering the Ronald McDonald House across the street from the very hospital where my daughter was born, I immediately understood why so many families consider it “home” while their children are receiving care at the medical center. I look forward to serving these families as part of this organization and sharing that experience with as man of my friends, family members, and colleagues as possible.

I chose to get involved with RMHCCF because it’s been a long time dream of mine to serve on the board. After a few years of weekly volunteer time making meals for families, helping kids learn to read and write, ride bikes, learn to skate, make holiday meals, and buy Christmas presents and wrap them for families staying in the houses, I had fallen in love with giving families a sense of normal in a very difficult time of their lives. I knew I wanted more than just some volunteer time. I wanted to help shape and make a larger impact for families, help our local chapter raise more money to help more families, and serve our community in a bigger way. I had a bigger vision beyond just volunteering. I’m so excited to serve with Key Initiative and can’t wait to see the impact we make this year!

The main reason I got involved with RMHCCF was for the sense of community. I had been looking to get involved in a volunteer organization for a while and I found the perfect fit here. Everybody that I’ve met is passionate about giving back and making an impact where they live. I wanted to be part of a team where people are excited to volunteer and give their time for a greater good, and that’s exactly what I found with the Ronald McDonald House. I can’t wait to begin my journey with Key Initiative and start giving back to my Central Florida community.

I choose to get involved with RMHCCF because I went to an activity at Ravenous pig where families stories were shared. It was so moving and impressive the amount of help that RMHCCF offered that it made me really want to participate. I started going to activities last year just to get involved, like the scavenger hunt and the bowling activity. I am super excited and proud to be part of KI 2022!
