As we continue to celebrate our 25th year as part of the Central Florida community, we’ll be reflecting on all of the past events that have helped to support our mission.

Haunted Jail Trail (October 28, 2017)

In 2017 we teamed up with Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and celebrated spooky season with a haunted jail trail in the backwoods of the Brevard County Jail. Over this four-day event, guests experienced thrilling haunts that had us shivering with fear! $17,500 worth of ticket sales from this spook-tacular experience benefitted RMHCCF and allowed us to continue serving our guest families.

“The Haunted Jail Trail was the perfect way to celebrate Halloween in 2017. From the beginning to the end of the trail, I thought there were plenty of scares! A group of the RMHCCF staff, including myself, went to participate and thank the Sheriff’s Office for donating part of the proceeds back to our mission and families. We had so much fun!”

“The sounds of children’s laughter combined with sugary sweet treats, all-you-can-eat ice cream, games, entertainment, cake walk with prizes, balloon art, face painting and more—all presented by “Celebrity Servers”—made for a magical day for the entire family. Ice cream for a great cause! For nine years our Ice Cream Social was a nostalgic tribute to the Ice Cream Socials of old –ice cream and old-fashioned family fun to raise money in support of the ill children and families served by our Ronald McDonald Houses in Central Florida.

Thank you to all who supported our celebration of all things ice cream!  Those who volunteered their time, purchased tickets, sponsored our  event, donated ice cream and product, donated items for our silent auction, provided entertainment and presented by “Celebrity Servers”

The RMHCCF Clambake and Silent Auction was not an event to miss! We kickoff a long weekend in a casual style while enjoying cocktails, music and activities in the Sea Harbor Pavilion’s lush garden area. Our lobster buffet and unique silent auction made this event truly memorable.

We wanted to create an event that was unique and set Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida apart from the other charity fundraisers in town. We determined an authentic Clambake would be a great way to entertain on a Friday night in the Spring. The goal was to provide a comfortable and casual setting, with all-you-can-eat lobster, corn-on-the cob, red potatoes and melted butter. It was an exciting time in Orlando. We collaborated with our SeaWorld and the newly opened Discovery Cove partners. We set up on the beach with huge buffet tables, bibs, volleyball, upbeat music, carnival games and visits by the SeaWorld animals.

We developed “Larry the Lobster” as the logo and mascot, which tied the entire event together. Clambake became a huge event, which lead us to move to the Port-A-Call at SeaWorld in the later years. After 14 years – the Clambake evolved to our new Appetite for the Arches signature event. (Which, by the way, is another great and unique event!)

To this day, I am still asked, “What happened to Clambake? When you mentioned Clambake in Orlando– you thought of Ronald McDonald House Charities.” We had so many great years and it was so much fun. You never know, they say some things come back around!
